People still type keywords into search engines. They also ask AI systems questions that sound like a recommendation request: who is nearby, who is trusted, who offers a specific service, and who is worth contacting.
That shift matters because a recommendation-style answer needs a clear picture of the business — who it is, what it does, where it operates, and why it might be relevant. If that picture is incomplete or inconsistent, the system may describe a competitor instead, or give a generic answer that names nobody useful.

Google search vs AI answers
Traditional search returns a list of pages and maps results. You can still win a click even if you are not the only business on the page.
AI-assisted answers often compress the market into a short explanation. The system is trying to be useful, not exhaustive. Visibility in that format is less about occupying ten blue links and more about whether your entity, services, location and proof points are clear enough to be used in an answer.
CLIXERA treats this as AI visibility: whether AI-assisted systems can understand, trust and describe your business. It is not a promise that ChatGPT, Gemini, Copilot or Google AI Overviews will recommend you.
Recommendation queries
A keyword query looks like “dentist Ottawa dental implants”.
A recommendation query looks like “Which Ottawa dentists offer dental implants and have strong patient reviews?”
The second question expects comparison. Reviews, location, services and clarity all feed that comparison. SEO still matters — pages still need to be crawlable and understandable — but SEO alone does not describe the whole job.
Entity clarity, business information and authority
AI-assisted systems lean on consistent identity. If your name, services, locations and descriptions do not match across your website, profiles and other public sources, the picture gets harder to trust.
Entity clarity means a system can tell who you are. Business information means the facts a customer would need — services, area served, how to contact you — are available and consistent. Authority means there are public signals that you are a real, established business, such as mentions, reviews and clear expertise on your own site.
AI visibility vs SEO
SEO helps search engines crawl, understand and rank content. AI visibility asks a related but different question: if someone asks an AI system for a recommendation in your category, does your public presence give that system enough clear, consistent, trustworthy information to consider you?
You can have decent rankings and still look vague to an answer engine. You can also improve answer-ready content and entity consistency without pretending that one checklist guarantees inclusion in any AI product.
Limitations
Third-party AI platforms control their own responses. They change, they use sources you do not control, and they may not cite you even when your information is clear.
CLIXERA does not guarantee inclusion or recommendation in AI platforms. Measurement and readiness assessment are not the same as placement.
