Look at search, local visibility, reviews, website and AI visibility together — then interpret the gap and prioritize action.

Competitors can be ahead in search while you lead in reviews. They can win maps in one neighbourhood and trail on the website. AI-assisted answers may describe them more clearly even when your rankings look acceptable.
The useful picture is the competitive gap across the surfaces customers actually use. A single ranking report cannot tell you which gap is worth this month’s time.
Look at search, local visibility, reviews, website and AI Search together, then name the largest honest gap versus selected competitors.
A technically correct audit that never names a competitor can still be strategically late. Visibility is relative.
Look at whether competitors are easier to find for the queries your customers use. Keyword gaps, on-page clarity and technical issues all matter more when you can see who is winning the same terms you care about.
When someone searches nearby, maps and local results decide who they call. Profile quality, listings, NAP consistency and nearby competitors all feed that race.
Customers already compare ratings. Volume, recency and whether you respond change how that rating is read. Compare reputation with the businesses people actually consider.
If visitors arrive and cannot load, understand or act, visibility is wasted. Read performance and experience next to competitors: are you losing after the click?
Ask whether an AI-assisted system has a clear, consistent description of your business. If a competitor’s services, location and proof points are easier to summarize, they may show up in recommendation-style answers even when you feel fine in classic SEO. This is not a ranking guarantee.
The largest number is not automatically the first task. Prioritize gaps that affect how customers find or trust you, are large enough to matter versus selected competitors, and that you can actually influence.
Then turn the finding into work and re-test to see whether the gap moved.
